By gut instinct or research?

Is the recognition of a piece of good art by gut instinct or thorough research? Art consultants, dealers and collectors are usually willing to talk bout their distinguished taste and unique eye in art, but isn't it seems bravado? The legitimating process is never decided by the glamour of “intuition” but the hands through which it passes, the magazine pages and museum show rooms it is shown, and the status of the critics who are talking about the work. Isn't the aura of art as instinct human good paradoxical?

Living in this world, we are always overinformed and undereducated. We have this veneer of knowledge. I am quite anxious about this face of my circumstance at present, that is the reason that I sometimes force myself to keep away form the computer and get more first hand experience.
